10-year-old moves 9,000 km to switch club

Back to news

Many ball-happy children know it: The desire to try something new with football – maybe switch club?
You can of course also exaggerate the switch of club, and 9,000 km may be just a little too far away for most parents when junior is going to train.
But then you have to move the whole family.
10-year-old Alessandro Cupini has lured his parents to move from Kansas City in the United States to Rome in Italy; because he feels he just must go and play for AS Roma.
Alessandro actually has a good football talent and has been on trial with AS Roma – during a vacation – where the big club gave him a seat at their children’s academy.
In addition to being bitten by a crazy football, Alessandro generally does not go and hide.
He has over 52,000 followers on Instagram and his own YouTube channel with videos about … Alessandro’s own football talent, of course …
The world football federation, FIFA, usually does not allow clubs to pick players under 15 years from other continents, and Barcelona has been severely punished for doing so.
However, Alessandro may, because his family originally comes from Italy, so he has dual citizenship – both American and Italian.
So, one must hope that the training conditions in Rome are better than in Kansas, where father Eddie has built a mini-course with artificial turf in the family’s cellar.
Remember: If you’re a kid and a bit of a football freak and your parents will not quite let you switch to a club 9,000 km away, you can always push through: ‘But at least I want to have my own football pitch in our house…’
