Forwards and backwards

Level 3

Global rating:
/5

Focus

The exercise focuses on the players’ coordination and ball control, with the aim of becoming better at connecting patterns of movement in multiple directions, both with and without the ball. The exercise can be made more challenging by having the players run forward while maintaining control of the ball, using right and left foot in turns and with coordination of forward and backward runs.

Instructions

The coach demonstrates the exercise in the middle and stresses the importance of rhythm and right/left foot in turns. On his/her own signal, the coach runs to the edge, where he/she demonstrates the desired running pattern. Focus could be on small steps and fast feet. The unskilled player can do the exercise without moving forward. Furthermore, the running pattern can be varied according to a player’s level.
